Worm data

On Wednesday Lydia and I made a worm farm.
We want to find out how we can improve it.

Today we made a chart to collect our data.
We had to change the cover on our worm farm, because the colors we already had, were too bright, and there was no action that we could see.
Today the worm farm was full of water. We are going to try and find out why.
We couldn't see any worms.

Making a model.

In the Flou7ishingBrains, we have been making models. We now know that making mistakes, wasn't that bad. We had a competition to see who could make the most mistakes. I made 2 mistakes. One of them was I cut a slit vertically, not horizontally. Then I cut my leg too short, and had to do it again.

Crayon writing

This is who I would be, and what my personality would be, if I was a crayon.
Our inspiration was a book called "The day the crayons quit".

Glow worms

I took a deep breath and stepped into the black. I clutched on to the rope beside me as we went down the steep staircase down to the stream. We were at Sixtus Lodge for a night and we were visiting the glow worm caves with Dave, my dads friend and his wife Kate and her aunt, Noleen. I clutched onto the rope even tighter as I felt my foot slip down a really steep step. I turned my headlight on and grabbed my mums hand to stop myself from falling. I carefully stepped down and ducked my head as we entered a tunnel of fern to get to the river.
I shone my headlight down so I wouldn't trip on the stones in the river. I stepped into the stream and water flooded my sneakers. We carried on until we reached it. The Cave!!! It was in the stream so I was prepared to get wet! When we stepped in Noleen signaled to turn our torches off and look up. The sight was extraordinary. The glow worms looked exactly like stars! My jaw dropped in amazement. We kept on moving and when we turned back we went under the waterfall! After that I was soaked head to toe! We even found some limestone! That was DEFINITELY the highlight of my holiday.

Camp week personal goals

🔹Mon. Bushwalk/Climb&Play I can get a little grouchy when I don't have a good sleep and I go on bushwalks.

🔹Tue. Construction day. I'm not very good at construction, so I'm going to need to ask lots of questions about our activities.
🔹Wed. Art day. I need to persevere if I mess up on something.
🔹Thu. Water day. Making the water slide, I need to make sure I work as a team.
🔹Fri. Camp out day. I need to be patient when we pack up because I helped make the mess.

This is what's going on in our garden:

My week

Black hat (what was hard) completing my parts of a plant flip book

White hat (what I did) garden gnomes, swimming

Yellow hat (what went well) making apple crumble posters

Apple crumbles

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we are going to sell apple crumbles for $5 to raise money for the chicken food. Some people will make the crumbles and some people will sell them. Yesterday (Monday) Aishling and I made the apple crumbles, we put the processed apples into the tins and spread out the crumble on top.

Camp week

On Monday we went to Bledsoe park to go for a bushwalk. We had a clipboard of clues that our group needed to find. It was challenging to find some of the last ones. Then we paddled in the stream, and some people made a dam out of rocks. I had to be patient because I had to wait for the rocks to put on. Afterwards we hopped back on the bus and went to kids republic for a play and rock climb. It was soooo hot! It felt like I was being cooked in an oven!
This is us making the dam

Tuesday was construction day, and we did construction rotations in poutama. The weight challenge was challenging because we had limited resources. I had to be persistent because our tower kept on falling over in the height challenge.
This is our group with the ozobotz

Wednesday was art day. We created forest creatures and a forest background for a mural in the hub.
We also enlarged little pictures to big pictures with Brenda. I had to work together to help get some hard pictures finished. I think next time I would of chosen more of a challenging picture.

This is the enlargement picture

Thursday was water day. We had water rotations around the school. I had to listen in water rockets because it was hard to get it right without instructions. It was challenging on the water slide because the wind was blowing it away.
This is us making a train

Friday was camp out day. We had to share people among the tents so everyone had a tent to be in. I felt disappointed when we had to put them down because it was an amazing experience. I enjoyed cooking the s'mores and having the fire men come.
This is us making s'mores

1 tablespoon of oil
1 onion chopped
1 teaspoon each of ground cumin and ground turmeric
1 tablespoon of tomatoe purée
4 potatoes peeled and chopped into chunks
Water (1/2 to 1 cup)
1 cup of peas (fresh or frozen)
Salt (about 1/2 a teaspoon)

Heat oil in a large saucepan. Add onion and cook gently until soft. Add the spices and the tomatoe purée, stirring to combine.  Add potatoes and stir to mix. Add about half a cup of water and cover. Cook for 15 minutes stirring occasionally. Add more water if needed. Add peas, stir, and simmer another 5 minutes. Add salt if needed. Serve with roti or rice.

Pea curry from "Picking peas".
